Valentine’s Day Edition: The Love Below

With this being Valentine’s Day and all, I figured this would be an excellent opportunity to dust off a classic album from a few years back that had kept love as a primary theme.

Outkast’s 2003 release, Speakerboxx/The Love Below, was a monumental album that crossed many genre lines and (in true Outkast fashion) brought more ears to our culture. While both Andre 3000 and Big Boi got busy, it was 3000’s The Love Below that gave the album its out of this world feel.

Listen:

Pretty deep song. The entire Love Below album is sort of like that–deep beautiful music. The album is out of bounds but within the framework of hip hop at the same time.

This album made love cool. It embraced and celebrated an emotion that is so often trampled over, especially in hip hop. I mean, check the videos:

“Prototype”

“Roses”

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!!!
